Stuart Sutcliffe

Stuart Ferguson Victor Sutcliffe was born on June 23rd 1940. His parents were Charles and Millie Sutcliffe, with his parents being a seaman and a teacher respectively. He had two younger sisters: Joyce and Pauline.

When Stuart's family first moved from Edinburgh, they set up home at 17 Sedberg Grove, and Stuart's sister Pauline was born here in 1944. Stuart's family then moved to 43, St. Anne's Road in 1950.The Sutcliffe family moved again to 22 Sandiway in 1953.

In 1956 when he started Art College, Stuart's first flat was at 83, Canning Street, not far from the College. It was a flat he shared with Rod Murray, his good friend. However, by the summer of 1957 he was back home.

Stuart decided again to get his own flat for his second year at Art College, and he rented a small attic flat at 12 Canning Street, not far from his first flat.

He then moved into a flat at 7 Percy Street, with his friend Rod. Stuart and Rod then moved to Gambier Terrace (left) a Georgian facade in the shadow of the Anglican Cathedral. John Lennon then moved in as well.

The Sutcliffe family moved from Huyton to 53, Ullet Road on the edge of Sefton Park. It was to here that Stuart returned after being beaten up after the gig at Lathom Hall.

The family then moved to 37, Aigburth Drive, (left)the other side of Sefton Park.

For his schooling, he attended Parkview Primary School before moving on to Prescot Grammar School. He left the grammar school in 1956 with 5 'O' levels, including Art, for a place at the Liverpool Art College where he met John.

Stuart died in Hamburg, aged 21 on 10th April 1962. His funeral was at his home church of St. Gabriel, where he had grown up. He was buried in Huyton Parish Cemetery.(left)
